How The Shame Of Being A Victim Of Abuse Or A Violent Act Is Becoming Less Today

For years, women have been ashamed to come forward if they were the victims of domestic abuse or a crime commited against them like a rape for fear of being ashamed or that the abuser would come and take revenge on them for going to the authorities. This stigma has been evolving throughout the years with women finding courage to fight against this type of crime. Through various programs, shelters and having the help of a Las Vegas domestic abuse attorney or a Las Vegas domestic violence attorney, they are starting to fight back and are no longer ashamed.

Most states have developed great programs for women that have suffered from abuse at home to help them to get back on their feet after they finally have had enough and get away from the situation they were in. There are women’s shelters that handle battered women that help them with counseling, searching for a job, giving them with a safe place to live until they are well enough emotionally to head out on their own. They also help these women with the care of their children which they may need when they escaped the abuse.

Women are finally realizing they have the right to be treated with respect and not to be ashamed that they ended up in an abusive relationship. A large reason women wait a long time to leave their abuse is that they believe the abuser will change when they dp love them despite the abuse, they choose to believe them until they are hurt again. Another reason they remain in a domestic abuse relationship is from feeling frightened that the person who has controlled them and hurt them will take it out on them to a more more serious extent from them leaving and also maybe pressing charges. Because so many of these women have been controlled, that fear is a strong reason why they don’t find help.

Another situation is when a woman is a crime victim, particularly a rape victim. Sometimes their behavior leading up to the rape makes them think that somehow they are responsible for it happening. For example, if they went out drinking and wearing revealing clothing, some people may believe they were asking for it. This is one of the big problems in why so many women don’t go to the authorities after being raped because society has made them think that] they are at fault when that is raised for the issue through programs as well as through the media, women now know it is not their fault and they do not deserve to be hurt or treated that way any longer. Some celebrities have also come forward saying how they were victims of abuse and they will not take it anymore giving other women the strength to do it too.
